Ten pupils from Salaba Academy County will have an opportunity to attend the World Under-18 championships set for Nairobi.

Kenya will host the global event from July12-17 in Nairobi where athletes from different under the age of 18 will compete.

Dstv and the local marketing team from the IAAF world under 18 committee organised a competition for the junior athletes at Lornah Kiplagat Sports Academy in Iten, Friday where the athletes were selected.

The junior athletes competed in various track categories in an event attended by some of the country’s top athletes.

The pupils were selected only to attend the event and watch the young athletes compete with the world as a way of motivating them.

IAAF World Under-18 Director Commercial and Marketing Joseph Lagat said the event was very salient ahead of the major competition.

He said it would give the kids a platform to display their talent and get to learn about their major event.

“I want to urge everybody to support the event.Come that day let us all come in large numbers and cheer our athletes. I am happy that we have lots of talent here,” Lagat said.

In the previous championships held in Cali, Colombia, Kenya ranked second behind United States of America.
