Tergat, a five-time World Cross Country champion, and has won five straight cross-country world titles from 1995-2000 and two Olympic silver medals in the 10,000 meter said he is ready to take the mantle of leadership of NOCK from the front.

“After serving the nation as an athlete for more than two decades, today marks another new chapter as I join another race in my career. For a long time, I have watched from the periphery in as far as the management of sports is concerned. At times, I have played  a peripheral role just to ensure that the interests of athletes are taken care of,” Tergat said.

Keino’s leadership has been marred by controversies after official at NOCK were arrested and charged with theft of money and sports equipment during the Rio Olympics.

NOCK is expected to hold its elections on May 5 2017.
