Caregivers for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in Thika West Sub County who misuse cash donations from the National Government will be held accountable.

Addressing parents and caregivers during a meeting on Saturday at Makongeni Hall, Thika Sub-county Children officer Rebecca Kariuki, said it had been noted that the Sh. 2,000 monthly stipend disbursed to the caregivers was not being utilized as intended.

Kariuki noted that some guardians have abandoned the children despite the fact that they still receive the stipends.

“Some children are reported to have been chased away from the homes and are now roaming in the villages in search of food and shelter,” Kariuki said.

She said that Department of Children Services will soon carry out an audit so as to scrutinize how the OVC Cash Transfer programme funds have been spent by caregivers.

“Those found to have misused the funds will be held accountable and appropriate action taken,” Kariuki warned.
