Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia) said the shooting cannot be taken lightly calling on relevant security organs to launch a probe into the incident.

On Friday, close to 15 gun-wielding youth stormed the venue in Katilie in Turkana East constituency where Mr Odinga was holding a meeting with ODM leaders from Turkana County and disrupted the proceedings.

They fired several shots as Odinga, Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok and other opposition leaders fled the venue.

"We cannot take that incident lightly because we don't know the motive of the attackers," he said during the burial of Idewa Okonya, 90, in Kocholya village, Teso North Sub County.

He said it was time government beefed up security of opposition leaders as the country prepares to hold an election.

Opposition politicians have since linked the shooting to their opponents.

Moses Wetangula, who is a Cord co-principal told government to provide more security to opposition leaders to avert a repeat of the same.

"It is very unfortunate that the State can allow such attacks against leaders who have tirelessly sacrificed for this nation," he said at Kisumu's Avenue Hospital where he visited former Maragoli MP Joseph Otiende.

He said Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery should firmly deal with people causing insecurity in the country.

Raila during the incident escaped unhurt.

He, later, held a rally in Lokichar from where he condemned the attack.

"We were with Nanok at Katilia when a leader incited the youth who came with firearms and stones," Raila said.

"They shot at the crowd. They were shooting at the crowd while the police tried to disperse them by shooting in the air. They were saying that they do not want the baraza to go on. It is stupid to disrupt people's meetings and cause chaos."

The opposition chief is on a three-day tour of Turkana County to drum up for the Mass Voter Registration.
