The Ministry of Education has developed a new curriculum that aims at giving priority to graduands with skills.

According to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Authority Director Dr Ahmed Ferej, the Competence Based Education and Training curriculum will ensure only graduands with skills are released to the country's job market.

Speaking at the Eldoret National Polytechnic during the ongoing Annual International Conference, Dr Ferej lamented that the current education system has been focusing on passing exams while ignoring the need for skills.

"We have trained many people who pass examinations but have little skills and this is why we want to reverse this trend," Ferej said on Wednesday.

"With the new curriculum we won't release anybody to the world of work without skills. We want to create a country where an employer focuses not on papers but someone's actual ability," he added.

The TVET Authority director further pointed out that the government had invested heavily in ensuring technical institutions have latest training equipment for new generation of technicians.
