Cheptiret-Kipchamo MCA Gilbert Tenai who was the mover of the motion said that these athletes have brought glory to the county, and as such should be treated honorably.

This comes after several athletes received constant harassment by county officers when they park their vehicles in the town streets.

Athletes are known to market the country globally and MCAs have seen that as the only way to appreciate their good work is to exempt them from paying the fees.

“The Motion has been passed by all county assembly members and it is only waiting to be signed into law by the executive for its implementation,” Mr. Tenai said.

Eldoret town is known as home to top athletes who include: Ezekiel Kemboi World steeplechase record holder, Eliud KipchogeKipchoge top Olympic marathon champion, Mary Keitany women’s New York City Marathon winner and Berlin Marathon winner Gladys Cherono.

The MCA spoke during the unveiling of a petrol station owned by Vivian Cheruiyot, an international marathoner at Annex trading centre on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago assured the runners in attendance that he would sign the Bill into Law immediately it got to his desk.
