President Uhuru Kenyatta started a frenetic week of campaigning that will take him to 14 counties in seven days by delivering title deeds to thousands in Lamu County and warning agents of terror that their time was up.
President Kenyatta said Government security forces have intensified their hunt for terrorists in Boni forest and will not stop until the security threat is eliminated.
“We have stepped up efforts to rid the country of the evil forces. I have no apologies to make in taking the tough measures were are taking,” President Kenyatta said.
The President – who was accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto – spoke today when he addressed rallies at Kizingitini and Mpeketoni in Lamu County, and at Garsen in Tana River County.
President Kenyatta also issued 2,000 title deeds to land owners in Lamu County, underscoring his administration’s determination to solve the land problem in the Coastal region.
Speaking at Mariakani in Kilifi County after a busy campaign trail that also saw him visit Ganze to speak to residents, President Kenyatta said in a span of four years his administration has delivered more than 3 million to Kenyans nationally in line with the pledge made to the people.
“We said we had a solution to the land problem and promised to deliver 3 million titles so that Kenyans get title deeds to effectively use their land to improve their lives,” President Kenyatta pointed out, saying he was glad that he has delivered that pledge especially in the Coast region.
Deputy President William Ruto said Jubilee believes issuing title deeds to land owners will solve the problem of squatters in the Coast region unlike the opposition which focuses on dividing and discriminating Kenyans on tribal and religious lines as their way of addressing the land issue.
“We are telling the opposition that dividing Kenyans on tribal and religious lines will not solve the land problem,” the DP said.
Speaking at Ganze town where he drummed up support for the Jubilee Party ahead of the August elections, President Kenyatta urged the residents to vote for the Jubilee team to enjoy the fruits of development.
He said the area had lagged behind in development because of the misuse of resources by the county government.
“It is unbelievable that Kshs 9.6 billion is dispatched to Kilifi County every financial year and yet Governor Amason Kingi has no development project to show for these resources,” said President Kenyatta.
The President said the problem of hunger being witnessed in Ganze among other parts of Kilifi County could have been a thing of the past if the county government had prioritized development according to the needs of the people.
“I am sure issues pertaining to hunger could have been a thing of the past if the Kilifi County government had allocated just Kshs 2 billion for the construction of dams for irrigation purposes,” said President Kenyatta.
He assured that his administration’s agenda will remain focused on transforming the lives of Kenyans especially those in arid and semi arid areas through irrigation.
To address the perennial water shortage in the arid parts of Kilifi, President Kenyatta said the Government is extending the Mzima Springs Phase Two Water Project from Samburu town in Kwale County to Ganze in Kilifi at a cost of Kshs 300 million.
“We have agreed with the Chinese Government to extend the water project from Samburu to Ganze to provide water for domestic and irrigation purposes to address the perennial problem of hunger,” said President Kenyatta.
President Kenyatta and his deputy were accompanied by several Jubilee leaders including Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, Kilifi North MP and Jubilee’s gubernatorial aspirant for Kilifi, Gideon Mung’aro. Other Jubilee aspirants in Kilifi County for the August polls were Ken Nyale (Senator), Amina Mnyazi (Women Rep) and Kitsao Ngowa Jogolo for the position of Kaloleni MP among others.
