The road has been in an impassable state in the last four years with the county government blaming National Highway Authority over delayed maintenance.

Heavy traffic was experienced on the better part of Thursday morning with motorists looking for alternative routes for entry and exiting of the busy Kisii town.

Kisii County OCPD Francis Nguli said that the police were yet to make any arrests but assured motorists that business will be brought back to normal.

“We are yet to find out the guys who dug the trench but we have already started our investigations,” Nguli said.

The incident has however been praised by a section of residents led by James Nyakweba who accused the government of failing to maintain the road despite taxes remitted annually.

"As residents, we welcome the act because the road is impassable. We have been paying taxes all through but I am disappointed that the road can remain in this deplorable state for all these years," he told the reporter.
