The Baraton University of Eastern Africa has closed down five satelite cmapuses.

In a statement, Vice Chancellor Phillip Maiyo stated the decision to close down Nairobi, Kisii, Eldoret, and Kisumu Campuses was made due to the decreased student enrollment.

"The university council, in its meeting of June 18, 2017, decided to close the four campuses located in Eldoret, Nairobi, Kisumu and Kisii with immediate effect.

"All students in these four campuses are required to report to the main campus where further details will be communicated to them," the VC's letter read in part.

According to a local daily, a source close to the institution's Senate said that the move will lead to heavy job cuts.

The university staff accused the Senate and administration of mismanaging and running down the institution.

"It is indeed very unfair to us as students; the cost of moving from Nairobi to Baraton in Nandi is unbearable as I enrolled in the Nairobi campus because of its proximity to my home and workplace," a student lamented.
