Ballot boxes from 29 polling stations in Nyamira governorship race will be opened on Wednesday morning following Monday's court order.

Presiding Judge James Makau had ordered vote scrutiny and subsequent recount in the affected polling stations following an application by petitioner Walter Nyambati.

In his sworn affidavits, Nyambati, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, had accused IEBC of allegedly inflating votes in favour of eventual winner, John Nyagarama of ODM.

Earlier, Nyagarama had accused media of bias on petition coverage following reports that scrutiny will take place in 90 polling stations.

At the infantry stages of the case, Nyambati had suffered a huge blow after the court expunged affidavits sworn by key witness, Bob Ndubi due to lack of dates.

IEBC records indicates that Nyagarama garnered 63, 000 votes to Nyambati's 59, 000 in the county has has been associated with opposition politics.

Should Nyagarama's victory be nullified, he will become the first governor to lose a seat since August elections.
