Outgoing Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar's political career is hanging on the balance after losing in the county’s gubernatorial contest in the just concluded elections.
Considering the nature of Mombasa politics, Omar who miscalculated his political move to vie against Joho, risks disappearing into political oblivion if he makes another wrong move.An eloquent speaker, the human rights activist performed very well during his tenure as a Senator. However, he could not match Joho's style of politics in his quest to unseat him.As he ponders his next move, Omar will be in the political cold for the next five years, and 2022 may provide him with the realistic chance to reinvent his political career.With Joho ineligible to vie for Governor in 2022, Omar has a realistic chance to succeed him. However, for that to happen, he has to admit that Joho is ahead of him in the pecking order of Mombasa politics, and as such, he can work with Joho as he tries to shed the 'spoiler' tag.However, Jubilee may also take an unprecedented move and offer him a government job considering that the Joho camp has always accused him of being a Jubilee sympathizer.Whatever happens, Omar's future in Mombasa politics depends on his next move on the political chessboard.
