A section of Jubilee Party leaders in Mombasa now want the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) agents and officials in the county changed ahead of the October presidential repeat poll. Also on their list of demands are police officers who they claim that together with the poll officers, have been compromised by the National Super Alliance (NASA).“This time round, we won't accept any compromised officers in Mombasa. To avoid any doubts, these new officers to be hired should not include any officer who conducted the August 8 election,” said Ananiah Mwaboza as quoted by The Star.Mwaboza was running mate to gubernatorial candidate Suleiman Shahbal in the just-concluded general election held on August 8.Shahbal lost to Joho who is now serving his second term in office.Mwaboza and Mombasa County Jubilee Party chairman Matano Chengo said Friday they had raised such concerns in their letter to the IEBC before the August elections asking for a change in the commission's officials, a plea that was not heeded to.“We should have fresh people countrywide to conduct this election,” stated Mwaboza. He made the remarks even as it emerged that the electoral body plans to recruit 40,000 returning officers and 153 presiding officers for the upcoming polls. On his part, Chengo stated that before last month’s elections, they had asked for a list of IEBC officials who were involved in the 2013 polls in Mombasa and those hired for this year’s exercise. He told the Star on the phone that they did not get any response from IEBC.
