The last-minute resignation of IEBC commissioner Roselyn Akombe and the response of chairman Wafula Chebukati clearly shows that this country needs divine intervention. Just like President Uhuru Kenyatta said, Kenyans should pray for the officials in charge of the October 26 elections. The electioneering period has already been overstretched, and the economy of the country will come to its knees if we don’t elect the next president and move on with our lives this month. With just a week to the fresh presidential election, Dr Akombe let her country down when pretended to inspect the printing of ballot papers in Dubai, only to flee to her safe home in New York and announce that she was turning her back on Kenyans. IEBC boss Chebukati, when reacting to the resignation, called a press conference and ranted, saying he cannot guarantee a free and fair election. Is he not admitting that he has failed to do his job? When holding the national prayers on Sunday, the country will need to pray for NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga, who recently withdrew from the race, to stop inciting his supporters to violently attack incumbent IEBC officials. Since the general election, more than 40 Kenyans have died, following Raila’s call that his supporters stage demonstrations against IEBC. Property worth billions has been destroyed. To scare away more misfortunes that may be on the way, the country needs God to intervene.
