2017 is looming and presidential candidates are trying to woo supporters from different communities to join them and help them clinch the seat by promising them goodies.

In the recent past, the president welcomed Members of Parliament and MCAs from the former Eastern Province in an effort woo them to work with him in 2017. It should be remembered that the former Eastern Province hugely voted for Cord in the last general elections.

This time round it was people from the Abagusii community. The president has made tremendous visits to Gusiiland opening projects and initiating other development activities. The Abagusii community lead by their tens of MCAs from Kisii and Nyamira visited State House recently in what pundits said was an invite to get their vote.

In a bid to woe them, the president promised that the government had set aside over 200 million to upgrade the Nyamira Level-4 Hospital.

Is this the first step for wooing the Abagusii to join the government? Remember that the Abagusii community voted for the Cord coalition in 2013.

And if true, will the president succeed?
