Windmill construction officially started at Upland Hills, Lari sub-county in kiambu County on Thursday.

Speaking to the area residents, Kiambu Women Representative Ann Nyokabi said that the project is among regional development plan enacted to promote county growth, development and also tourism.

Among those who accompanied Nyokabi is Eng. Joseph Ominga from KenGen Eng. Ominga said that the selected area serves the best location for the project as it is above 2,000 feet above sea level.

“On high regions like this place, windmill works best to generate energy just like the one on Ngong Hills in Nairobi whose output is excellent,” said Ominga.

Eng. Ominga said that the project has been marked as another source of geothermal power in the country. He added that the project, upon completion, will serve section of Kiambu and some part of Nairobi County with electricity power.

The area youth on their part cried out not to be left out in the project and requested to be offered jobs in the ongoing construction.

Joyce Wangui, a resident pleaded that youths should be given an opportunity to work with the constructor to money for survival and earn a living.
