Kitui Governor Julius Malombe has threatened to sue the electoral commission over allegations that he had broken rules by using a vehicle owned by the county government for campaigns.

Through his lawyers Apollo Muinde and partners, Malombe gave the Chairperson Regina Mwatha 48 hours to retract a letter he had written to the Director of Public Prosecutions ordering that action is taken against the governor.

Malombe was among the five governors that the office of Ombudsman wanted to be investigated for using public resources for political activities.

He was accused of branding the vehicle with colors of Wiper Democratic Movement during his campaigns which are contrary to section 14 {1} of Election Offences Act which denies use of public resources for political activities.

However, Malombe denied the allegations that the vehicle belonged to the county government.

"The allegations that the car Registration Number KBN 335J is a property of Kitui county government is not only fallacious but malicious given that the said car is the private property of one Robert Kalali Makau," he said in his demand letter to the commission.
