A middle-aged woman on Tuesday gave birth in the streets of Kitui Town after she was allegedly turned away by nurses at Kitui General Hospital.
Eye witnesses said the woman, identified as Mueni John, was on her way to seek assistance from a private healthy facility when labour pains overwhelmed her at Kunda Kindu shopping center
She lay down and started screaming for help prompting curious passersby and business people to gather around her.
A few women quickly swung into action and helped deliver a bouncing baby boy. The woman and her newborn baby are reported to be stable and doing well.
The residents criticised the hospital for the alleged act of negligence, terming it inhuman and unacceptable.
Reached for comment, the hospital management denied that the woman was turned her way as alleged but promised to investigate the matter so as to establish the truth behind it.
