A Mosoriot woman aged 20-year-old in Nandi county has sued the world 3,000m steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto for child neglect.
The woman's home is within Mosoriot area where Kipruto comes from.
She moved to a children's court in Eldoret on Tuesday seeking Sh50,000 every month for upkeep.
According to the unemployed woman, she cohabited with Kipruto between 2015 and 2016, that they had a boy but differed later after which Kipruto cut all communication with her.
“We cohabited as husband and wife from May 2015 and were blessed with one child. Our relationship and perceived marriage has gone sour to the extent that the defendant doesn’t contact us, and doesn’t provide for the minor, leaving me to struggle alone for the welfare of the minor", the woman says in her affidavit.
Center for Human Rights and Democracy, CHRD in Eldoret supported the woman to file the case.
“She came to us for assistance and we will provide the lawyer to prosecute the case for her”, CHRD CEO Ken Wafula said.
The case was first filed in February but a date for the hearing had not been set.
She wants Kipruto compelled to pay Sh15,000 for food, Sh15,000 for rent, Sh12,000 for clothing, Sh3,000 for electricity and water and Sh5,000 for a house help and medical expenses.
The court summoned the athlete to appear in court for hearing on September 25.
