National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has said that the fresh Presidential election will go on as planned despite opposition leader, Raila Amolo Odinga having dropped out of the race.

In an opinion piece published on the Standard, Duale, also Garissa MP said that the opposition leader, who is contesting for his fourth time, will not bar Kenyans from taking part in the rerun.

"The elections will go on because the nation cannot be held hostage by one person. Kenyans should not continue to suffer because Raila does not want an election. They will choose their president on October 26," read part of his post, as quoted by the local daily.

The vocal politician also pointed an accusing finger at the leaders of the opposition of attempting to frustrate the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ahead of the rerun.

"Raila has been on a mission to try and frustrate the October 26 fresh elections. No wonder he was not interested in campaigns," he said.

The sentiments of the lawmaker come at a time when leaders from both political divides have continued to express different reactions following the resignation of IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe.
