The national government has unveiled its plan to pump Sh150 million into the renovation of Mombasa Beach Hotel in a bid to boost the tourism sector at the Coast. The renovation of the hotel, which once hosted former Democratic Republic of Congo President Mobutu Sese Seko, is aimed at increasing its tenancy capacity. The hotel manager, Victor Shitakha said the renovation will be carried in different phases, and is expected to kick off in October, the Standard has reported. The process will include improvement of the conference rooms, reception, the lounge and kitchens among other areas in order to improve the outlook of the facility. The manager, however, maintained that the hotel will remain operational during the period of renovation to keep tourists flocking the place. The management has also revealed that the training of staff has already started to ensure professionalism when it comes to service delivery. On his part, the interim secretary of the Tourism Professional Association, Sam Ikwaye, hailed the government for setting aside the said amount to renovate the hotel. The new development is part of the government plan to revamp the tourism sector, which has continued to experience several setbacks.
